Exposure Trends and Local Hearing Loss
Prevention Requirements
The exposure trend chart shows how the risk of noise exposure in this department has
changed over time, color-coded to match the exposure table and requirement
"thermometer". Improvement indicates a reduction in the number of persons at
risk, communicating to the worker the effectiveness of the noise control program.
The requirements "thermometer" shows how risk increases with noise exposure
level. In addition, it shows the trigger levels at which various components of the hearing
loss prevention program kick in. These can be the legal requirements of state or federal
regulation, or local requirements for hearing protection use and noise control engineering
as appropriate.
